The Spanish American war of 1898 resulted in the handing over of Cuba as a protectorate to the victorious United States of America. Which got independence from the Washington as an independent state in 1902 granting a domineering sway to White House to handle and control both its domestic and foreign affairs.
Since then this narrow island country has been a battleground between world powers and of world politics.

The Government in Havana restricted any type of print and electronic media coverages that might undermine the Cuban territorial integrity and Revolution legitimacy. This strict vigilance created a sense of fear and subjugation in the Cuban people. While the Western and American media depicted Cuba and Cubans as accursed and demons to their viewers.
