Anthony Summers and Stephan Dorril investigative book, Honey Trap, digs the infamous affair of British Defense Minister, John Profumo with a nineteen years old girl, Christine Keeler.
According to the reports and trial as was conducted by the British officials after the divulging of this scandal, the Defense Minister John Profumo and the showgirl and model Christine Keeler was introduced to each other by the a third person, Stephan Ward, an Osteopath.
The third of this love triangle was as a Soviet Naval attached, diplomat, and spy, Eugene Ivanov. Who are supposed to be a handler of Christine Keeler using her as a access agent to get information from the Defense Minister John Profumo about UK and West plans about the communist Moscow.
This relationship would remained hidden and silent if there was not a shooting incidents in London in December 1963 between the other lovers of Keeler.
The police and press investigation and uncovered this trio relations. Fearing that the National security of the United Kingdom might be compromised , the Defence Minister John Profumo was questioned in the House of Lords about this illicit relations but he refused to accept any such involvement but later he acknowledged that he had lied about this affair.
Stephan Ward, the Osteopath, was tried for illicit earnings and he apparently committed suicide before court verdict that was obviously against him. Prince Philip also came indirectly into the limelight of this affair.
Because Prince Philip, Stephan Ward, and Christine Keeler were members of the Thursday Club established by the Prince and his private secretary. This was a trial and testing period for British Royal Family!!
This scandal rocked the very foundation of the British government. Prime Minister Harlod Macmillan had to resign for his "reported" ill health. Defence Minister John Profumo also had to leave his office in disgrace.
The shocks of this scandal was also felt in the United States.
As President Kennedy had also participated in some glamourous parties of Bobby Baker in Washington in which those women, too, participated that previously partied with Stephan Ward parties in the United Kingdom. There was fear as well as rumour that those women who partook in both sides parties might have been involved in espionage of UK and USA elites.
